My 2020 Journey

“The World is such a happy place to be.” Not only have I believed this thought but also perceived it too. But the year 2020 has changed my thinking. It wasn’t just a hard year but was also destructive.

Covid-19, the pandemic has struck as a wave of destruction. We had a marriage in our household. It was supposed to be energetic, full of enthusiasm and happiness all around but things seemed to be going downhill since January.

It was the final year of my college, my final semester. I was way too happy for anything and everything. I was supposed to take a break from college, enjoy my brother’s wedding to the fullest- dancing, going around and just being. I had to start my job, move out of the house, explore the world and become independent.

March 23, 2020 had marked the beginning of the realization of the destruction that had already struck us. The announcement of “Janta Curfew” made people look into the matter. There were many around me clueless about what was going on. Even the knowledge didn’t make us realize the seriousness of it, but something did.

The Deaths”, that something was the news of several deaths, people losing lives, and us losing our closed ones. Everyday was a new battle. Everyday there was news of someone leaving us. Every-time the phone rang, it instilled in us a fear that the caller on the other end might again say something that we were not ready to hear.

Not only us but the Bollywood fraternity lost some of the remarkable people which led the entire nation to mourn and cry over the loss. Some of these people were Irfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Saroj Khan, Jagdeep and many more.

This loss also taught us that when adversity knocks the door, it doesn’t see who is who, it just takes you away leaving behind people to grieve for your loss.

Now when I look back to my 2020 journey, the entire year passed in a jiffy being locked down at home. Learning new things, playing and connecting with the siblings, spending quality time with the family which otherwise was hardly possible and preparing for exams for the final semester. Even though the start of 2021 had been no different from 2020 and the coming months just seem to be more hard and hectic, I hope we get over this pandemic and panicky situation soon and normalcy is restored in people’s lives.
